We Explore Earth

We Explore Earth runs a real-time event platform for a community of 20,000+ users: browsing events, RSVPing, and coordinating volunteers for outdoor trips.

Our team built the app from zero to one for WEE's 20,000+ users. I joined early in that build through LA Blueprint as a Software Engineer Intern, on a 15-member agile team with 5 designers, and took the events and RSVP flow from its first skeleton to shipped features. I built the calendar, event card, event detail and attendee-summary components in React Native from Figma designs. My own merged pull requests cover the event card and home screen redesign, the RSVP modal's cancel flow, and admin-only event deletion end to end, frontend and backend.

Screens

Screenshots from my own merged pull requests, May 2026.

  1. 01

    Event cards

Reworked the event card: dropped the gradient and gloss overlay, and restyled the date to match the Figma spec.

  2. 02

    Event detail

Tap an event card to open its photo, dates, location and how many people are on the list.

  3. 03

    RSVP

Pick Yes or Maybe, accept the terms, and RSVP. The event shows up in your list with a Going badge.

  4. 04

    RSVP flow

The RSVP modal grew a Cancel RSVP option that only shows once you're already registered; canceling clears both the event's attendee list and the user's RSVP list.

  5. 05

    Admin delete

A delete option on the event detail screen, visible only to admin accounts.

  6. 06

    Confirm delete

Deleting asks for confirmation first. On confirm, the backend walks every attendee's RSVP before removing the event from Firestore.

What it does

Event browsing and RSVPs
Browse upcoming outdoor events, RSVP yes or maybe, and update or cancel an existing RSVP from the same modal.
Volunteer coordination
Event organizers track attendees and manage who's signed up for a trip.
Admin controls
Admin accounts get event management tools regular users don't, including deleting an event and cleaning up every attendee's RSVP when it's removed.
Personalized home screen
A "Brewing next" section surfaces the events a user is already RSVPed to, ahead of the full event list.

What I built

  1. 01Took the events page and RSVP flow from zero to one: from the page's first skeleton through My Events, RSVP, the event cards and RSVP sheet, the RSVP cancel flow, and hiding past events, to admin-only delete.
  2. 02Built the calendar, event card, event detail and attendee-summary components in React Native from Figma designs, working with 5 designers on a 15-member agile team.
  3. 03Shipped admin-only event deletion end to end: the trash-can UI and confirmation modal on the frontend, and the deleteEvent controller and DELETE /events/:id route on the backend, which also cleans up every attendee's RSVP before removing the event.
  4. 04Added the RSVP modal's cancel flow and redesigned the event card and home screen.
